Topic:Metal-organic-framework-derived functional nanomaterials for electrochemical energy storage and conversion

Abstract: We use metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as a unique platform to synthesize nanostructured functional materials with both controlled composition and structure. Due to the atomically arranged metal ions and organic ligands, as well as the wide variety of compositions and porous structures, MOFs can serve as unique precursors for easy preparation of metal-based materials, carbonaceous materials and nanocomposites with high porosity and tunable composition/structure. In this talk, I will briefly discuss some progress we have made in this area. Specifically, I will mention some examples of designed synthesis of nanostructured metal oxides, sulfides, nitrides, and carbides using MOF precursors. These MOF-derived nanomaterials exhibit interesting electrochemical properties.
