On November 29, 2013, the 8th Foreign Students Chinese Speech Contest of Shaanxi Province was held in the library lecture hall in Northwest University. After a fierce competition, Hai Shanen, Yemeni student from NPU, stood out in the many contestants and got the first place.
This year's event drew 38 contestants from 13 different universities like Xi'an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest University and so on, who come from 23 countries in Asian, Africa, America, Europe and Oceania. The contestants made speeches on the theme of “My Chinese Dream and I” and “My Life of Studying in China” launched an intense and wonderful game.
Our university sent two international students to participate in the contest. Garhuom Ahmed Ali Ahmed Hussein (Hai Shanen), Yemeni student, won first prize. Bunchheang Lim (Lin Wenchang), Cambodia student won honorary prize. Hai Shanen lyrically talked about his childhood and his experience in China. In a short span of two years, he used holidays to visit a dozen of famous mountains and great rivers. This experience obtained all audiences’ appreciation. Finally, with vivid content and fluent expression, he won the first prize with a very high mark 91.8 and show the excellent Chinese level and positive spirit of the international students of NPU. It is also the best result our international students have ever gained.
Foreign students’ Chinese speech contest is an important event for foreign students in Shaanxi province and a good stage displaying each university’s TCSL standard. The international college in our university attaches great importance to Chinese language teaching. For a long period, we paid attention to the construction of faculty members, designed the teaching materials, vigorously promoted the quality of teaching, organized students to participate in colorful language and cultural practice activities, and won a huge success.
