NPU International Students Succeed in the National Robot Competition at the First Time

The "2018 International Engineering & Robotics Competition,China" was held in China University of Geosciences, in Wuhan, Hubei, from April 25th to April 29th, 2018 co-sponsored by the College Innovation Method Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and the International League of Engineering Robots and other organizations. In order to prepare for this competition, the whole terrain robot team in Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) was working and training hard under the joint guidance of the Engineering Practice Training Center and the International College. Li Fayuan was the instructor; Wu Chao and Lv Bing were the leaders. They led two teams to participate in the competition. The team was composed of four international students from Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Malawi, and two students from China. After a few days of fierce competition, NPU team competed with other colleges in Off-road Project All-terrain Race and finally won two second prizes.

1858 teams from 29 provinces, autonomous regions and 355 units entered the competition, including 2591 teachers and 5186 students. The competition was composed of postgraduate group, undergraduate group, vocational college group and social group. This competition was divided into robot competition, engineering innovation design, artificial intelligent robot and engineering cross-country project.

After a few days of intense competition, the team of our university successfully passed the design report, the robot design competition by the creative design and skilled operation, and finally got good achievements.

It was the first time for NPU students to participate in International Engineering & Robotics Competition China and the first time for NPU students to fight against 200 teams of this project. In the course of competition, NPU students showed outstanding performance. NPU was also the only university that has the international students participating in this competition.

China Engineering Robot Competition is a national competition sponsored by the College Innovation Method Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and the International League of Engineering Robots. It has formed robotics competition in the field of Transport Engineering, Competitive Engineering, Racing Engineering, Biomedical Engineering which caters to the engineering applications, outstanding innovation practice and has a certain influence in China. The aim of the competition is to strengthen the engineering practice ability, the consciousness of innovation and the spirit of team cooperation, to promote the reform of the training and teaching of higher education, and to improve the quality of the training of talents.

The International College and the Engineering Practice Training Center have actively built a base of innovation and practice for international students at the university — Northwestern Polytechnical University’s International Practice Innovation Base, so that NPU international students are able to shine in this national competition. This base is mainly for international students studying at Northwestern Polytechnical University. It aims to cultivate the ability of international students to innovate and practice, encourage international students to participate in science and technology competitions and various innovative activities, and provide international students with a platform for transforming ideas into entities. Through the inspection of this competition, the effectiveness of the base has been highlighted, and in the future training of foreign students, it is believed to play a greater effectiveness to contribute to the training of more international students.
